1.4DEFINITIONS
A.Clear – Removal and disposal of trees 20 inch or less in circumference
(measured at a point 2 ft above existing ground), stumps, logs, limbs, sticks, vegetation, debris, and other material on the natural ground surface.
B.Grub – Removal and disposal of roots, buried logs, debris, and organic
matter to 2 ft below natural ground surface.
1.5SUBMITTALS
A.Copies of disposal permits, agreements, or both, for information.
B.Request to dispose of material resulting from clearing and grubbing
operations inside the Right-of-Way, for review.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1PREPARATION
A.Verify with the Engineer the vegetation or objects to be removed.
B.Before clearing and grubbing, verify the appropriate temporary
environmental controls have been installed.

3.2VEGETATION AND DEBRIS REMOVAL
A.Clear and grub areas as shown or necessary to complete project work,
including the following:
1.Areas where fill material will be placed
2.Areas to be regraded
B.Roots, and non-perishable solid objects may remain in cleared areas
where the top of embankment is:
1.2 ft or more above the cleared ground.
C.Completely remove stumps and roots where a structure is to be
constructed, piles are to be driven, or unsuitable material is to be removed.
3.3DISPOSAL
A.Outside of the Right-of-Way
1.According to prevailing laws including environmental laws,
ordinances, regulations, and rules.
B.Inside the Right-of-Way
1.Use material to widen embankments and flatten embankment side
slopes as authorized by the Engineer or bury material at locations specified by or authorized by the Engineer.
a.Cover disposed material with at least 2 ft of earth and grade
to drain properly.
2.Reduce wood to chips a maximum of ½ inch thick for mulching cut
and fill slopes.
a.Bury or uniformly distribute chips on the ground surface or
mix with the underlying earth so the mixtures will not sustain burning.
3.4PROTECTION
A.Land monuments, property markers, or official datum points
1.Protect until their removal is necessary.
2.Reference for re-establishment before removing.
B.Protect trees from damage to roots and branches if they are designated to
remain.
C.Protect other vegetation and objects designated to remain.
