A.Granular Borrow and Untreated Base Course
1.The Engineer takes random samples from the grade and tests for moisture and laboratory density and performs in- place density determinations.
2.Meet a minimum density of 92 percent of the maximum laboratory density.
B.Asphalt Mi x and SMA
1.The Engineer will visually inspect placement.
1.7 Quality Control
A.Use a nuclear density gauge in each repair to verify that maximum density has been obtained.
1.Compact and test until maximum density is obtained.
2.Make one additional pass over the entire surface and test again to verify maximum density is obtained.
3.Do not crush aggregate.

Part 3 — Execution
3.1 Asphalt Pavement Soft Spot Repair
A.The Engineer will identify and mark repair areas.
B.Remove the deteriorated asphalt to a depth of at least 6 inch below final roadway surface for non- interstate routes and at least 8 inch for interstate routes or as determined by the Engineer.
1.Non-deteriorated existing asphalt may be left in place if at least 2 inch thick.
2.Remove material by pavement sawcutting or rotomilling, leaving all edges square and vertical.
a.Size the removal area to be at least 6 ft by 6 ft.
b.Locate cuts at least 6 inch beyond the visible limits of distress.
c.Locate longitudinal cuts on lane lines or at the center of the lane.
3.Remove the deteriorated asphalt without damaging the surrounding asphalt pavement.
4.Transport and dispose of excavated material.
C.Grade and compact the existing base course surface if existing asphalt is removed full-depth.
1.Use the largest piece of vibratory or impact compaction equipment practical.
2.Continue compaction until additional work does not improve the measured density.
D.Remove loose material and clean vertical edges before applying tack coat and paving.
E.Place and compact Asphalt Mix or SMA to within 1/8 inch of the surrounding pavement surface.

2.Continue compaction until additional work does not improve the measured density.
3.2 Utbc Soft Spot Repair
A.The Engineer will identify and mark repair areas.
B.Excavate and remove 10 inches of existing base course or as determined by the Engineer.
1.Transport and dispose of excavated material .
C.Grade and compact the existing base
1.Use the largest piece of vibratory or impact compaction equipment practical.
2.Continue compaction until additional work does not improve the measured density .
D.Place Separation Geotextile to within 1 inch of the edge of excavation.
E.Place and Compact UTBC
1.Use the largest piece of vibratory or impact compaction equipment practical.
3.3 Granular Borrow Soft Spot Repair
A.The Engineer will identify and mark repair areas.
B.Remove saturated or unsatisfactory material in the repair area to a depth of at least 24 inch or as determined by the Engineer.
1.Transport and dispose of excavated material .
C.Place Geosynthetic Composite System .
1.When Geosynthetic Composite System is comprised of separate layers of material :
a.Place Separation Geotextile to within 1 inch of the edge of excavation.
b.Place Geogrid. Wrap one foot up the sides.
2.When Geosynthetic Composite System is a single layer, wrap one foot up the sides of the excavation.
D.Place and compact Granular Borrow or material deemed satisfactory by the Engineer.
1.Materials may include recycled Portland Cement Concrete or rotomill tailings if generated during construction.
2.Selected material must be sufficient to bridge or stabilize the subgrade.
3.Material consisting of large aggregate (1 ft minus) may be required to stabilize a heavily saturated subgrade.
4.Continue compaction until additional work does not increase the measured density if rotomill tailings are used.
5.Use the largest piece of vibratory or impact compaction equipment practical.
