Part 2 — Products
2.1 Hot -Applied Flexible Polymer Modified Repair Material
A.Use repair material that will provide an impermeable, voidless mass that is solid at ambient temperatures consist ing of resin, polymers , graded fillers, aggregates , and chopped fiberglass fibers ; up to 3 percent recycled tire rubber, ½ percent to 1 percent steel fibers 0.5 mm to 1 mm in diameter meeting the requirements of table 1 .
1.Supply material in a powder form, factory blended and bagged in meltable bags.
B.Use bulking aggregate approved by the manufacturer. . 2.2 Equipment

Part 3 — Execution
3.1 Identification and Preparation of Repair Area
A.The Engineer will establish and mark circular, rectangular or triangular repair areas extending at least 1 inch beyond a spalled area or 6 inch beyond the failed area.
1.The Engineer will re -mark any area that is discovered to be spalled or delaminated during the removal.
2.Limit each repair location to a maximum of 9 square feet.
a.Repair the pavement using full depth panel replacement when repair exceeds 9 square feet. Refer to Section 02753.
3.Limits for corner breaks
a.Use a triangular repair when only one adjacent panel has a corner break .
b.Use a circular repair when two or more adjacent panels have corner breaks . 1) Center repair over intersection of the joints. 2) Limit repairs to 1 foot diameter 3) Use triangular repair when repair is greater than 1 foot diameter.
B.Remo ve concrete from repair area.
1.Saw cut or core drill a minimum of 1/2 inch in depth around exterior of repair area.
2.Remove material with 30 pound class or smaller hand jackhammers .
C.Completely r emove all loose particles, crack seal, oil, dust, moisture, and all other contaminants.
1.Use compressed air at a minimum of 100 psi to clean all surfaces.
2.Remove exposed reinforcing steel before placing the patch material .
D.Prime all surfaces of new repair areas using primer recommended by the manufacturer to prevent moisture intrusion.
E.Heat surface of existing patching material per manufacture recommendations .

3.2 Material Placement
A.Follow manufacturer’s specifications for material preparation and placement.
1.Have manufacturer’s representative on site for the first day of material placement or as determined by the Engineer.
B.Place bulking aggregate evenly throughout the patch to within ¼ inch of the surface for repairs that are 1 inch in depth or greater .
1.Heat and dry bulking aggregate in a vented barrel mixer at 300 degrees F immediately before placement.
C.Place and finish hot-applied flexible polymer modified repair material flush with existing surface.
D.Top with manufactures recommended topping stone to refusal at the gel stage.
E.Repair patches with surface profiles that vary from the existing roadway profile by more than 1/8 inch.
1.Remove and replace or grind patches with surface profiles greater than 1/8 inch above the surrounding pavement surface.
2.Apply additional patch material to patches with surface profiles greater than 1/8 inch below the surrounding pavement surface.
3.3 Protect Ion
A.Do not open to traffic until patching material has cooled or hardened sufficiently to support traffic loads per manufacturer ’s recommendations.
B.Protect all placements according to the authorized traffic control plan.
C.Remove and replace any patches that are rejected before substantial completion due to the following:
1.Unsatisfactory or improper workmanship by the Contractor, including patches with surface profiles that vary from the existing roadway profile by more than ⅛ inch.
a.Patches with a profile higher than ⅛ inch from the existing roadway profile may be ground to meet existing profile instead of removal and replacement.

3.4 Clean Pavement
A.Sweep roadway and shoulders of all debris before opening to traffic. Prevent damage to the patches from cleaning equipment.
