A.Manufacturer’s product data sheets and recommended installation instructions for review .

Part 2 — Products

2.1 Preformed Sheet Membrane System

A.Use a sheet -type membrane system with a self -adhesive surface suitable for use under hot asphalt overlays.
B.Meet the mechanical properties listed in Table 1. Table 1 Mechanical Properties of Membrane System Property Value Method Thickness, inch 0.065 min. Permeance, perms 0.10 max. ASTM E 96, Water method Strip Tensile Strength or Grab Tensile Strength Strip Tensile Strength: 80 lb/inch (1230 psi) min. ASTM D 882 Grab Tensile Strength: 200 lb. min. Part 3 — Execution

3.1 Limitations

A.Do not work during wet conditions or when the concrete surface or ambient air temperatures are below 50 degrees F.
B.Do not apply the membrane if it has rained or is expected to rain within 12 hours of application.
C.Do not begin asphalt overlay surface preparation or backfill until the Engineer has inspected the membrane.

3.2 Preparation

A.Concrete Surface
1.Do not place the waterproofing membrane until concrete repairs are complete.
2.Allow concrete to dry after curing is complete and curing cover materials have been removed.
a.Dry for at least 48 hours and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
3.Remove all sharp ridges and projections that c an puncture the membrane.
4.Sandblast to remove asphalt , curing compounds, and other foreign material from the entire concrete surface.
a.Sandblast the bottom four inch es of curbs or parapets.
5.Vacuum or sweep and use compressed air to remove all dust and loose material from the concrete surface.
B.Joints and Cracks
1.Bond a 12 inch wide strip of fiberglass matting to the concrete surface over cracks and cold joints greater than 3/16 inch wide using a compatible binder.

3.3 Application

A.Follow membrane manufacturer’s recommendations for application temperatures, equipment, and procedures.
B.Apply primer recommended by the manufacturer of the membrane material.
C.Place the membrane starting at the low point and working to the high point.
1.Overlap pref ormed membrane strips at least 4 inch and as required by the Manufacturer .
D.Place the membrane on the vertical face of the concrete parapet or curb to one inch above the surface of the overlay shown.
E.Patch torn and cut areas and narrow overlaps.
1.Extend the patch at least 4 inch beyond deficient areas .
2.Bond the patch firmly to the surface.
F.Allow only rubber tire vehicles on the membrane.
1.Do not allow public traffic.
