Part 3 — Execution

3.1 Conduit Expansion Coupler

A.Conduit encased in concrete
1.Install conduit expansion coupler immediately before placing concrete.
2.Cut ends of conduit to position conduit expansion coupler so that the piston (smaller diameter length of coupler) is completely within the open expansion joint.
3.Place the extent of the female coupler end 1/2 inch inside the face of concrete on one side of the joint and the barrel 1/2 inch inside the opposite face of concrete.
4.Wrap piston in foam tape at least two complete revolutions to make certain concrete will not interfere with the expansion m echanism.
a.Apply tape in individual rounds beginning at the face of the barrel, do not spiral along the length of the piston.
b.Wrap tape gently so that it does not significantly compress with the second revolution.
B.Exter ior Conduit
1.Place conduit expansion coupler near the expansion joint.
a.Do not place a hanger or mount ing point between the coupler and the expansion joint.
2.Cut ends of conduit to set conduit expansion coupler in the half -way expanded position.

3.2 Junction Boxes

A.Install junction boxes as shown .
1.Underground junction boxes. Refer to Section 13554.

3.3 Pull Tape

A.Install pull tape in each conduit.
B.Provide 3 ft of pull tape slack coiled in the parapet junction box es and in junction boxes installed in the ground, measured from the top of the junction box going out.
