524Salvaged Culverts

Effective with the December 2018 Letting 309 2019 Standard Spec ifications Section 524 Salvaged Culverts

524.1Description

(1)This section describes excava ting and removing existing culver t pipe, including pipe arch, and pipe

cattle pass, and apron endwalls; and transporting, cleaning, and reinstalling at new locations the plans show or the engineer directs.

524.2Materials

(1)Use existing materials. Use new material conforming to 520.2.6 for joint connections.

524.3Construction

(1)If existing pipe culverts and o r apron endwalls , are designate d for salvage and use in the new work,

remove them from the existing lo cation, clean, handle, transpor t to, and install at the new location without damaging the pipe culve rt. Replace any material damaged by the contractor.

(2)Construct pipe, cattle pass, and apron endwalls at the new loc ation as specified in 520.3 .

524.4Measurement

(1)The department will measure the LF bid items under this section acceptably completed as specified for

pipe in 520.4 and the Apron Endwalls bid ite ms acceptably completed as speci fied for apron endwalls in 520.4 .

524.5Payment

(1)The department will pay for measured quantities at the contrac t unit price under the following bid

524.0100 - 0299 Culvert P ipe Salvaged (size) LF

524.0600 - 0799 Apron Endwalls fo r Culvert Pipe Salvaged (size) EACH

524.0800 Pipe Cattle Pass Salvaged LF

524.0900 Pipe Arch Salvaged Co rrugated Steel (rise x span) LF

(2)Payment for the LF bid items under this section is full compen sation for excavating and removing pipe

from existing location; for exca vating and associated dewaterin g; for placing pipe, including furnishing any necessary new ban ds; for backfilling; for maintaining tempo rary drainage; for replacing damaged installations; and for providi ng geotextile joint wrap and join t ties.

(3)Payment for the Apron Endwalls for Culvert Pipe Salvaged bid items is full compensation for

excavating and removing apron endwalls from existing location; for cleaning and installing apron endwalls, including bands or connectors; fo r excavating, including forming bed; for pr oviding geotextile joint wrap and joint ti es; and for backfilling.

(4)Payment for the 524 bid items also includes water for compacti on and dust control, except if the

contract contains the Water bid item, the department will pays eparately for water under 624.5 .

(5)The department will pay separately for excavating unsuitable m aterial and backfilli ng as specified in

520.3.2.1(10) as extra work.

Effective with the December 2018 Letting 310 2019 Standard Spec ifications Section 525 Corrugated Aluminum Culverts

525.1Description

(1)This section describes providi ng corrugated aluminum culvert pipe and aluminum apron endwalls.

525.2Materials

(1)Furnish corrugated aluminum pipe and aluminum apron endwalls conforming to AASHTO M196.

525.3Construction

(1)Construct as specified in 520.3 .
(2)If the plans show steel apron end walls with corrugated aluminu m pipe, install a suitable insulating

material approximately 1/16 inch thick between the pipe and the endwall at the joint. The contractor may use one or more of the following: - Asphalt impregnated fabric. - A sheet plastic. - A rubber gasket. - Other non-degradable material of substantial strength.

525.4Measurement

(1)The department will measure the LF bid items under this section acceptably completed as specified for

pipe in 520.4 and the Apron Endwalls bid ite ms acceptably completed as speci fied for apron endwalls in 520.4 .

525.5Payment

(1)The department will pay for measured quantities at the contrac t unit price under the following bid

525.0100 - 0299 Culvert Pipe Co rrugated Aluminum (size) LF

525.0300 - 0399 Apron Endwalls fo r Culvert Pipe Aluminum (size) EACH

(2)The department will pay for the wo rk under this section as spe cified in 520.5 as follows:

- Pipe and apron endwalls bid items. - Cast-in-place concrete and alternate endwall installations. - Water for compacti on and dust control. - Excavation and foundation ba ckfill at depths greater than 6 i nches below the culvert.
