MUTCD W16-11P: High-Occupancy Vehicle Plaque
The W16-11P sign is covered in Section 2G.09 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)In situations where there is a need to warn drivers in an HOV lane of a specific condition, the HOV (W16-11P) plaque (see Figure 2G-4) may be used above a warning sign. The HOV plaque may be used to differentiate a warning sign applicable to the HOV lanes when the sign is also visible to traffic on the adjacent general-purpose roadway. - Option · Permitted (may)The diamond symbol may be used instead of the word message HOV on the W16-11P plaque. When appropriate, the words LANE or ONLY may be used on this plaque.
