MUTCD W4-4P: Traffic Does Not Stop Plaques
The W4-4P sign is covered in Section 2C.66 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Option · Permitted (may)The CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4-4P) plaque (see Figure 2C-10 ) may be used in combination with a STOP sign when engineering judgment indicates that conditions are present that are causing or could cause road users to misinterpret the intersection as an all-way stop.
- Option · Permitted (may)The TRAFFIC FROM LEFT (RIGHT) DOES NOT STOP (W4-4aP) or ONCOMING TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP (W4-4bP) plaque may be used when such messages more accurately describe the traffic controls established at the intersection.
Placement and mounting
- Standard · Required (shall)If a W4-4P series plaque is used, it shall be mounted below the STOP sign.
