MUTCD W7-3: Hill-Related Plaques
The W7-3 sign is covered in Section 2C.64 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 11th Edition. Below are the provisions from that section that describe when the sign is used and how it is placed.
What it means and when it is used
- Guidance · Recommended (should)Hill-Related (W7-2 series and W7-3 series) plaques (see Figure 2C-5 ) or other appropriate legends and larger signs should be used for emphasis or where special hill characteristics exist.
- Guidance · Recommended (should)On longer grades, the use of a distance (W7-3aP or W7-3bP) plaque (see Figure 2C-5 ) at periodic intervals of approximately 1-mile spacing should be considered.
