Do you need a permit?
Montgomery requires a permit for electrical work.
Section 5-117 exempts: work by electric service companies on transmission lines, on their own premises, on service connections, meters and other apparatus that remain company property after installation, and on street and public-area lighting; wiring devices, appliances or equipment operating at not more than 50 volts between conductors that do not include generating or transforming equipment capable of supplying more than 50 watts; work involved in manufacturing, testing or repairing electrical materials and apparatus, not including permanent wiring other than that required for testing; assembly, erection and connection of apparatus by its manufacturer, not including other electrical wiring; repairs by electricians regularly employed by a plant or business for maintenance, on the employer's premises only; necessary repairs to component parts of heating and air-conditioning systems by persons certified under State Act #849 and licensed under the city's mechanical ordinance, not including complete change-out or replacement of air-conditioning units; and work on property owned, operated or leased by the city when done by a city employee.
