Shed permit checklist — Long Beach, California

Assembled from Long Beach’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Long Beach does not require a permit for a shed.

When a permit is not required

Detached accessory structures used as tool or storage sheds, children's playhouses or similar uses may be exempt from a construction permit, as determined by the Building Official. Such structures should not exceed 120 square feet in area and 8 feet in height from floor to roof, and should not include any plumbing, electrical or mechanical installations.
