General building work permit checklist — Broward County, Florida

Assembled from Broward County’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Broward County requires a permit for general building work.

When a permit is not required

Broward County's Building Code Services Division is not a conventional citywide building department. It permits unincorporated Broward and those municipalities that contract with the county under interlocal agreement (Administrative Code 40.27(a), "Service Charges to Municipalities and Agencies as per Interlocal Agreements"). Broward is almost entirely incorporated, so most addresses in the county resolve to a city building department - Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, Miramar and others - rather than to the county. Confirm which authority has jurisdiction over the parcel before relying on these amounts. Per-permit-type exemption thresholds are not yet recorded for Broward; they derive from Florida Building Code 105.2 as amended by the Broward County Administrative Provisions, which has not been read into this record.
