Do you need a permit?
Columbus requires a permit for electrical work.
City Code section 8-14.4 also carves out a short list on the electrical side. Listed decorative lighting that plugs into an existing outlet needs no permit, and temporary power or lighting set up for a job may stay in place up to 90 days. Putting an attachment plug receptacle back in is exempt, though the outlet itself is not. So is dropping in a replacement branch-circuit overcurrent device of the same rating in the same spot. Anything running under 25 volts that cannot deliver more than 50 watts falls outside the requirement, as does routine upkeep such as changing lamps or plugging approved portable equipment into receptacles already installed for good.
