Do you need a permit?
Aurora requires a permit for electrical work.
Section 103.2 of the City's Electrical Code Administrative Provisions exempts limited work from an electrical permit; exempt items include listed cord- and plug-connected temporary decorative lighting, minor maintenance such as changing a switch, receptacle, light fixture, or ceiling fan under 35 pounds provided wiring and junction boxes are not altered, telecommunication wiring operating at less than 50 volts and not associated with fire alarm, other life safety systems, or low-voltage suspended ceiling systems, and single-family owner-occupied home projects not requiring special knowledge where the equipment and material costs are less than $500. Items requiring special knowledge, such as work covering the service, solar systems, or EV charging stations, are not covered by the owner-occupied exemption. Exemption from permit requirements does not authorize work done in violation of the code.
