St. Paul requires a permit for a shed.
A one-story detached accessory structure used as a tool or storage shed, playhouse or similar use does not require a building permit provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet. An accessory structure under 200 square feet must still comply with all provisions of the City's Zoning Ordinance for setbacks and lot coverage, and any such structure in a Heritage Preservation District or Site still requires approval by the Heritage Preservation Commission.
