Electrical work permit checklist — Chattanooga, Tennessee

Assembled from Chattanooga’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Chattanooga does not require a permit for electrical work.

When a permit is not required

Chattanooga City Code § 14-83(d) states that no permit is required for the installation, maintenance or alteration of electrical wiring systems in one- or two-family dwellings. That subsection also removes the permit requirement for two-conductor bell wiring, for thermostat wiring, and for low-voltage and power limited wiring installed outdoors or underground.
