Deck permit checklist — Irving, Texas

Assembled from Irving’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Irving requires a permit for a deck.

When a permit is not required

A detached deck falls outside the building permit requirement under Section R105.2 of the City's 2024 International Residential Code Amendments only if all of the following hold: it stands clear of the dwelling, its area is 200 square feet or less, it nowhere rises above 30 inches off the grade, and it is not the landing for the egress door that Section R311.4 requires.
