General building work permit checklist — American Fork, Utah

Assembled from American Fork’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

American Fork requires a permit for general building work.

When a permit is not required

The city's FAQ states that buildings less than 200 square feet do not require a permit, but must still comply with the setback and municipal code requirements for the zone. Permits for multifamily, non-owner-occupied, commercial and industrial work are issued only to a licensed and bonded contractor; an owner doing work on their own owner-occupied home must file the city's owner/builder form.
