Assembled from American Fork’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
American Fork requires a permit for a shed.
The city's FAQ states that buildings less than 200 square feet do not require a permit but must still comply with the setback and municipal code requirements for the zone; detached garages and sheds over 200 square feet do require a permit. (Source: https://www.americanfork.gov/Faq.aspx?QID=63) For detached garages and carports the city's checklist adds that a detached garage may not cover more than 25 percent of the rear yard area and that a structure over 1,000 square feet requires Planning Commission approval before an application is submitted.
