Fence permit checklist — Taylorsville, Utah

Assembled from Taylorsville’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Taylorsville requires a permit for a fence.

When a permit is not required

Two official Taylorsville handouts state different thresholds and both are reproduced here. Handout B-1 'Do I Need a Building Permit' lists fences taller than 7 feet as requiring a permit and fences 7 feet or less in height as not requiring one. Handout P-22 'Residential Fencing Standards' states that a fencing permit is only required for fences which exceed 6 feet in height. P-22 is the fencing-specific handout and is cited here as primary, but the 7-foot figure in B-1 has not been withdrawn. Separately, P-22 sets maximum heights of 6 feet in rear yards, 6 feet in side yards (subject to clear-view standards on corner lots), 3 feet for solid fencing in a front yard and 4 feet for open or see-through fencing in a front yard.
