Re-roof permit checklist — Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Assembled from Milwaukee’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Milwaukee does not require a permit for a re-roof.

When a permit is not required

A permit is not required for the following work if it does not affect the roof structural system: repair, recover or replacement of any quantity of roof covering on 1 and 2 family dwellings; repair, recover or replacement of roof covering affecting up to 1,000 sq. ft. or 25% of the roof surface, whichever is less, in all other use groups; and roofing work approved as part of separate general construction plans and permit. Work affecting properties within locally designated historic districts, Neighborhood Conservation districts or BID-Architectural Review Board areas must obtain separate approvals regardless of permit exemptions.
