On impact the rail is drawn through an impact head that kinks it sequentially, absorbing energy rather than buckling the rail rearward. The manufacturer states a 50 foot 0 inch system on eight posts at 6 foot 3 inch centres, a length-of-need point at post 3 (12 feet 6 inches downstream), and allowable rail heights of 30 to 32 inches, which places it on both the older 27-3/4 inch rail and the 31 inch Midwest Guardrail System.
