708Foundations for Signal and Lighting Installations

SECTION 708: FOUNDATIONS FOR SIGNAL AND LIGHTING INSTALLATIONS

708.1 Description

This Work consists of construc ting reinforced concrete foundati ons for support of Traffic Signal Standards, Luminaire Stan dards, and control cabinets.

708.2 Materials

708.2.1 Concrete

The Contractor shall use Class A concrete for Traffic Signal St andards (Type I) and control cabinet foundations in a ccordance with Section 510, “Po rtland Cement Concrete.” The Contractor shall use Class G concrete for Traffic Signal St andards (Type II and III) and Luminaire Standards (Type V and VI) foundations in accordan ce with Section 502, “Drilled Shafts.”

708.2.2 Steel Reinforcement

The Contractor shall provide st eel reinforcement in accordance with Section 540, “Steel Reinforcement.”

708.3 Construction Requirements

708.3.1 General

The Contractor shall place foundations on firm ground. If the excavation conflicts with existing underground or overhea d utilities, the Project Manager will determine a new location or provide a new foundation design or utility relocation. The Contractor shall restore the ground surface to its original ele vation, if relocation is nece ssary. The Contractor shall construct foundations with final elevations no more than one (1 ) inch above the final pavement elevations or nearest top of curb elevation. In Sidewalks, the Contractor shall provide flush top Standard f oundations level with the surface of the Sidewalk and place expansion Material between th e foundation and the Sidewalk.

708.3.1 1 Cast-In-Place Requirements

The Contractor shall securely bra c e r i g i d c a s t - i n - p l a c e f o r m s t rue to line and grade. Thoroughly moisten the forms and ground before placing concrete . The Contractor shall place the concrete for each foundation in one (1) operation. After placement and before the concrete sets, raise and lower e ach anchor bolt to properly align, distribute concrete aggregate, and remove air v oids. The Contractor shall give exposed surfaces of concrete fou ndations a smooth and straight finish, free of form marks.

708.3.2 Control Cabinet Foundations

The Contractor shall provide ground-mounted flush-top type cont rol cabinet foundations eight (8) inches above finished grade or existing ground, unles s otherwise specified in the Contract. The Contractor shall properly locate and place cabinet anchor b olts during concrete Section 708: Foundations For Signal And Lighting Installations Page 821 placement. The Contractor shall place a Class A concrete base pad in front of and behind control cabinet foundations. Cons truct the concrete pad in acc ordance with the Contract.

708.4 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT—Reserved

708.5 Basis of Payment

The Department will pay for Traffic Signal Standards (Type II a nd III) and luminaire Standards foundations installation s in accordance with Section 502, “Drilled Shafts.” The Department will pay for Stru ctural Concrete, Class A used i n foundations for signal and lighting installations in acco rdance with Section 511, “Con crete Structures.” The Department will pay for steel reinforcement used in foundat ions for signal and lighting installations in acco rdance with Section 540, “Steel R einforcement.”

708.5.1 Work Included in Payment

The following Work and items will be considered as included in the payment for the main items and will not be measured or paid for separately: 1. Excavation, backfill, compaction; and 2. Additional excavation, backf ill, and encasing of existing ut ilities due to utility line conflict and foundation relocation. Section 709: Rigid Electrical Conduit Page 822
