Shed permit checklist — Fontana, California
Assembled from Fontana’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Fontana requires a permit for a shed.
No locally published shed threshold, so the state exemption in CBC/CRC 105.2 as adopted applies - a one-story detached tool or storage shed of 120 sq ft or less is exempt from a building permit. Fontana's fee schedule then bands storage sheds starting at 'first 300 sq ft', which is the fee that applies once the structure is large enough to need a permit; Planning approval is also normally required for a new accessory structure.
