Do you need a permit?
Los Angeles County requires a permit for electrical work.
Electrical work in unincorporated Los Angeles County is permitted under Title 27 rather than the building code, and the building-permit exemption list in Title 26 Section 106.3 expressly does not waive a required electrical permit. That means an exempt shed or an exempt fence still needs an electrical permit if it is wired. New circuits, service panel changes, subpanels, feeders and temporary construction power are all permit work. Only genuinely minor maintenance such as replacing a lamp socket, a snap switch or a fuse falls outside the requirement.
