Re-roof permit checklist — San Diego County, California

Assembled from San Diego County’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

San Diego County requires a permit for a re-roof.

When a permit is not required

Reroofing is not on the PDS 110 exempt-work list, so a roof covering replacement requires a permit in unincorporated San Diego County. There is no percentage-of-roof-area threshold published the way Riverside County publishes one. In Wildland-Urban Interface and high fire hazard severity areas the County enforces ignition-resistant roof assembly and ember-resistant detailing through this permit, and Fire District approval can be a condition of approval on the reroof.
