Do you need a permit?
Stockton requires a permit for a fence.
A building permit is not required for fences 7 feet or less in height, other than a fence used as a pool, spa or hot tub barrier. The Planning Division's Fence Regulations for Residential Property states that fences over 7 feet require a building permit, and the Building & Life Safety Division's Work Exempt from Permit - Residential handout (BLDG-0018) withholds the 7-foot exemption from fences used as a pool, spa or hot tub barrier. Fencing is not required by code in residential zones and is the landowner's choice, with the exception of select multifamily fencing.
