Shed permit checklist — Stockton, California

Assembled from Stockton’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Stockton requires a permit for a shed.

When a permit is not required

Stockton's adopted permit exemptions in CRC Section R105.2 include one-story detached accessory structures whose floor area is 120 square feet or less, with storm shelters excluded from that exemption. An accessory structure that is exempt from the permit can still fall under Part 7, the California Wildland Urban-Interface Code. Playground equipment is also among the exempt items.
