Do you need a permit?
St. Petersburg requires a permit for a shed.
Putting up or anchoring a prefabricated portable shed may fall outside the permit requirement where the unit measures under 100 square feet on the outside and is not meant to be lived in. The same may hold for a detached single-story accessory building, whether a tool shed, a storage shed, a playhouse or a comparable utility structure, serving a single family residence or a residential duplex on a residentially zoned lot. Limits apply in that case: gross roof area, counting both covered area and area open to the sky, has to stay under 100 square feet; the ridge has to sit under 10 feet above average finish grade; and the roof cannot be carrying live load.
