Deck permit checklist — Atlanta, Georgia

Assembled from Atlanta’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Atlanta requires a permit for a deck.

When a permit is not required

Non-structural porch or deck repairs to an existing one-family, two-family, or duplex residence are exempt from permitting, without regard to cost. This exemption does not apply to exterior work on property in a landmark or historic district governed by Chapter 20 of the zoning ordinance.
