Do you need a permit?
Durham requires a permit for electrical work.
For residential jobs other than new single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes and mobile homes, a permit is not necessary for one or two-family dwelling units when repairing or replacing electrical lighting fixtures or devices, such as receptacles and lighting switches, with the same voltage and the same or lower amperage, as long as the work is carried out by a licensed contractor under G.S.87-43.
