Do you need a permit?
Philadelphia requires a permit for electrical work.
A permit is not required for repairs that are part of regular maintenance, such as replacing lamps, circuit breakers, and fuses, repairing or replacing switches, lamp sockets, ballasts, drop cords, receptacles, and bulbs, taping bare joints, and replacing lighting fixtures to existing conditions. A permit is also not required to connect approved portable equipment to approved permanently installed receptacles, to remove wiring during demolition, for temporary test systems, for partition system componentry, or for low voltage wiring in one-and-two-family dwellings and Group U structures.
