Do you need a permit?
Salt Lake City requires a permit for a fence.
The city states a building permit is required prior to construction of any fence or wall. Height is limited to 4 feet between the front property line and the front building line and 6 feet at or behind the primary facade, with 8 feet allowed in FR, SR and R-1 districts where the lot abuts nonresidential zoning; pillars may extend up to 18 inches above the maximum height.
