Tooele requires a permit for electrical work.
SCOPE CAVEAT: Tooele City publishes no general 'an electrical permit is required' sentence and offers no standalone electrical permit application form. What is confirmed is narrower: the City's Permit Fee Rates sheet publishes a flat fee line for 'Electrical (new meter base)', which establishes that the City issues and prices electrical permits at least for a new meter base, and Tooele City Code 4-4-1 (Ord. 2003-04, 02-05-03) recognizes that the State of Utah has adopted the National Electric Code and adopts its most current edition as a City ordinance to the extent Tooele City is not preempted from doing so. The currently adopted edition per the City's Building Codes and Design Criteria sheet (08-27-2025) is the 2023 NEC. Tooele publishes no electrical exemption thresholds and no exemption list of any kind; any exemptions would flow from the state-adopted code, which the City does not reproduce.
