Shed permit checklist — Tooele, Utah
Assembled from Tooele’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Tooele publishes a rule for shed permits but does not state outright whether one is always required.
Tooele City publishes NO square-footage threshold below which a detached accessory building or shed is exempt from a building permit. Tooele City Code 4-1-2 requires a written permit from the Building Official for the construction of any structure "provided, that no permit shall be necessary where the erection, construction, reconstruction, or alteration is minor in character as defined herein, or as determined by the Building Official" - leaving the determination to the Building Official rather than to a published threshold. Because no official Tooele source states whether a shed of a given size needs a permit, this value is left null rather than assumed from the model code or from neighboring cities.
