Re-roof permit checklist — Seattle, Washington

Assembled from Seattle’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Seattle does not require a permit for a re-roof.

When a permit is not required

In detached one- and two-family houses, a permit is not required to replace existing roof sheathing or to repair the roof when no changes are made to the building envelope and the work is equal in quality to the existing structure. Minor repairs or alterations that cost $6,000 or less in any 6-month period also do not require a permit.
