Part 1 — General
1.1 Section Includes
A.Concrete surface preparation and application of a non-sacrificial anti-graffiti coating applied to concrete surfaces treated with penetrating concrete sealer or concrete coating.

1.4 Definitions
A.Barrier Coat – a primer required by the manufacturer to cover surface treatments that are incompatible with the anti -graffiti coating.
B.Non-sacrificial Anti-graffiti Coating – a coating that remains intact and undamaged after the removal of graffiti from a concrete, masonry or natural stone surface.
1.5 Submittals
A.Manufacturer’s product data, warranty information, recommended installation instructions , and graffiti removal instructions for review .
B.Three 8½ inch by 11 inch samples of each anti -graffiti coating color required on the project for approval before ordering anti -graffiti coating materials if solid opaque color is required.
C.Compatibility letter from the manufacturer, for information , indicating anti - graffiti coating is compatible with previous coatings. Anti-Graffiti Concrete Coating
Part 2 — Products
2.1 Anti -Graffiti Coating
A.Permanent non- sacrificial anti -graffiti coating.
B.Meet Cleanability Level 1 according to ASTM D 7089.
C.Meet VOC content of 100 g/L or less. Refer to ASTM D 3960.
D.Color
1.Use a transparent clear coating that does not alter the color of the underlying surface finish when applying over a colored concrete coating.
2.Use solid opaque color when applying over a clear penetrating concrete sealer.
E.Use a coating c ompatible with the penetrating concrete sealer or concrete coating used.
1.Include barrier coat when required by manufacturer.
Part 3 — Execution
3.1 Preparation
A.Apply only to surfaces that have been sealed with a penetrating concrete sealer or concrete coating.
B.Remove fence, signs, reflectors, railings, and similar items already in place that are not to be coated. 1. Protect items in place before surface preparation and coating if removal is impractical because of the size or weight of item.
2.Reinstall removed items after completing anti -graffiti coating installation.
C.Clean substrates of substances that could impair the coating bond before applying coating.
1.Schedule cleaning and coating application so dust and other contaminates from cleaning process will not fall on wet, newly coated surfaces.
2.Clean and prepare surfaces to be coated according to the manufacturer ’s written instructions for substrate condition.
a.Remove efflorescence, chalk, dust, dirt, grease, oils , release agents , and curing compounds . Anti-Graffiti Concrete Coating
D.Remove existing coatings or apply a barrier coat as recommended by the manufacturer when apply ing an anti -graffiti coating to an existing surface with an unknown or incompatible sealer or coating.
1.Apply penetrating concrete sealer or concrete coating that is compatible with anti -graffiti coating when existing coating is removed.
3.2 Graffiti Test
A.Apply graffiti to two 3 ft by 3 ft test areas selected by the Engineer.
1.Make treated a reas sufficiently larger than test areas to prevent graffiti from ma rking uncoated surfaces.
2.First test area .
a.Apply solvent based spray paint. 1) Paint using colors black, blue , and red until the test area is completely covered.
3.Second test area.
a.Apply solvent based ink markers. 1) Mark the surface using black, blue, and red colors.
b.Provide marker coverage sufficient to demonstrate the performance of the anti -graffiti coating.
4.Do not apply anti -graffiti coating to entire surface until the Graffiti Test has been completed and the Engineer is satisfied with the results.
B.Remove the graffiti in the presence of the Engineer at least five days after the graffiti application.
C.Consult the manufacturer to determine corrective measures or select another product if the graffiti is not completely removed.
3.3 Application
A.Do not apply anti -graffiti coating until the penetrating concrete sealer or concrete coating has properly dried.
B.Apply anti -graffiti coating only when the surface to be coated and outside air temperature will remain above 45 degrees F for 24 hours.
C.Apply anti-graffiti coating according to manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions.
