Do you need a permit?
Irvine requires a permit for a shed.
One-story detached accessory buildings on a single-family home site used as tool or storage sheds or playhouses are exempt from a building permit when the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet. This is the standard CRC/CBC accessory-structure exemption. A shed over 120 sq ft, or any shed with electrical or plumbing, needs a permit, and zoning setback rules still apply even to exempt sheds.
