Shed permit checklist — Oakland, California
Assembled from Oakland’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Oakland requires a permit for a shed.
Up to one accessory structure per property measuring less than 120 sq. ft. is generally permitted outright and does not count towards total lot coverage. A Building Permit is not required for such a structure unless Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing (MEP) work is involved or the structure is greater than 120 sq. ft. Zoning review is still required.
