Do you need a permit?
Sacramento requires a permit for a shed.
The Residential Accessory Structures handout (CDD-0417) waives the permit for unconditioned single-story structures below 120 ft². The City's Required Building Permits page frames the same waiver as detached accessory buildings of one story with no more than 120 square feet of floor area, and notes that it is unavailable on properties under design review, inside a preservation district, or designated as historic landmarks. A permit is needed once a detached structure reaches 120 ft², for anything attached to the main house at any size, and for the gas, mechanical or electrical work that accompanies it.
