Do you need a permit?
San Diego requires a permit for electrical work.
Electrical permits are required for all electrical work except as exempted in San Diego Municipal Code section 129.0303. Exempt work includes minor repairs replacing fuses, switches, circuit breakers, lampholders, luminaires, ballasts or receptacles of the same size and general type; replacing lamps or connecting portable appliances to permanently installed receptacles; work operating at not more than 25 volts between conductors and not capable of supplying more than 50 watts; and repair or replacement of hardwired appliances such as dishwashers, garbage disposals and cooking appliances in dwelling units where no additional load is imposed.
