Do you need a permit?
Aurora requires a permit for a deck.
The DIY & Do It Right Home Improvement Handbook states that a deck less than 30 inches above grade that is not attached to the house does not need a building permit. Aurora has adopted the 2021 IRC, and Aurora City Code § 22-184 replaces only the first item of its permit-exemption section, so the remaining conditions of that section continue to apply to a detached deck. Contact the Building Division to confirm whether a specific deck qualifies.
