Do you need a permit?
Paterson requires a permit for a deck.
Repair or replacement of any part of a deck, porch, or stoop that does not provide structural support for any roof or portion of a building is ordinary maintenance under N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7 and requires no permit, inspection, or notice to the enforcing agency, provided the materials used are identical to or closely similar to the existing materials and in the same location as those replaced.
