Fence permit checklist — Paterson, New Jersey
Assembled from Paterson’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Paterson requires a permit for a fence.
The fence standards of section 500-3.13 do not apply to fences erected in connection with schoolyards, playgrounds, public buildings, or athletic or recreation fields. Under the State Uniform Construction Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.14, a construction permit is not required for fences six feet or less in height; that exception does not apply to barriers surrounding public or private swimming pools.
