Do you need a permit?
Henderson requires a permit for general building work.
Henderson Municipal Code Section 15.01.130 carries the city's exempt-work list. Detached single-story sheds, playhouses and similar accessory buildings make it at 200 square feet, as do fabric sun shades and gazebos at the same size. Fencing gets two entries: anything 24 inches or shorter anywhere on the lot, and rear-yard fencing to 4 feet where no permanent foundation is involved. A retaining wall qualifies at 24 inches, footing top to wall top. Decks qualify while they stay within 30 inches of the ground; so do walkways and driveways within 30 inches of the grade beside them, provided nothing is constructed underneath. Swapping out windows and doors is on the list, along with play structures that have no motor and finish work such as paint and wallpaper. None of this releases the work from the technical codes or from the City's other requirements.
