Do you need a permit?
Providence requires a permit for electrical work.
A permit is not required for maintenance consisting of the replacement of lamps, single receptacles, devices or fixtures, including the connection of portable electrical equipment to an approved permanently installed receptacle. Exemption from the permit requirements does not authorize work that violates the code or any other law or ordinance.
