Providence requires a permit for a shed.
The residential list clears detached single-story accessory buildings at 64 square feet of floor area or less, and it clears backyard play structures under the same 64 square feet. Providence's commercial list on the same page is more generous, running detached single-story accessory buildings — garden sheds, playhouses and the like — up to 120 square feet. Skipping the permit is not permission to build something that breaks the code or any other law or ordinance.
