Fence permit checklist — Arlington, Texas

Assembled from Arlington’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Arlington requires a permit for a fence.

When a permit is not required

A fence permit to install, enlarge or repair any fence is not required when the repair or replacement of fencing is less than 50 percent of one side of the fence is being repaired and/or replaced, according to the city's Work Exempt from Permitting technical bulletin. The Unified Development Code Information Bulletin titled Residential Fences, which applies to the replacement of residential privacy fences or construction of new privacy fences on single-family residentially zoned lots, sets that threshold against a different measure, stating that a fence permit is required when more than 50 percent of the length of the fence along a property line is being replaced.
