Deck permit checklist — Dallas, Texas

Assembled from Dallas’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Dallas requires a permit for a deck.

When a permit is not required

On single-family and duplex property Dallas asks for no permit for a platform or deck of 200 square feet or less that stays within 30 inches of grade at every point, stands clear of the dwelling, keeps the clearance owed to overhead service drop conductors, and is not the landing for the exit door that section R311.4 of the Dallas One- to Eight-Family Dwelling Code calls for.
