Grand Prairie requires a permit for general building work.
Grand Prairie administers the I-Codes as adopted in its Unified Development Code, and its Building Inspections division publishes a broad list of residential work needing permits (additions, living-area conversions, foundation repair, window/door replacement, carports, decks, driveways of any size). No standalone published exemption list mirrors IRC R105.2 for structural work, so assume a permit is needed for any addition, alteration or structural repair.
